Cat Food:

Everybody who already has a cat at home knows how awkward a cat can be when it comes to food. But we would like to state clearly here: it is not the cat who decides on the menu but the human "can-opener".

The best experiences we made are with canned food, whereby it is not important which brand of cat food you buy , but the main point is that all necessary nutrients are included and that's what all canned foods offer. You can say that all products available on the market comply with this requirement. There are only differences in the composition, that means how high the fish or meat contents of the indicated variety is. Let us talk for example about products like Whiskas, Kitekat, Sheba etc. When reading the label carefully you will find out that "only" about 4 % of meat or fish is included per can, the rest are other incredients, the biggest part (82 %) is moisture. Pet food products of "higher" quality which are correspondingly more expensive (like IAMS) contain a substantially higher proportion of meat or fish (approx. 20-25 %). It now only depends on the purse of the cat owner and on the taste of the cat which product is to be preferred. We neither wish to prescribe the expensive products like IAMS (comment: our cats do not like it at all) nor the cheap products like Whiskas, Kitekat etc.

We ourselves have fed our cats on Whiskas and Kitekat for years and it has not caused any "damage" to them. The most important thing is that your cat likes eating the food that you offer. You should never force your cat to eat a certain food that the cat won't accept. From experience we know that especially pedigree cats should constantly be fed the same pet food (at least two different brands like for example Whiskas and Kitekat). We cannot recommend changing the food "every week", only because another product is on special offer. In our opinion this is not good to keep the cat healthy. It is better for the cat's digestion to stay with the same food constantly to avoid diarrhoea and/or vomitting.

We will talk about fresh food and dried food after the next update of our HP. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
